If you are traveling to Southeastern Wisconsin and are looking for a place to stay during the holidays (or anytime, really!), my boyfriend and I recently had the chance to stay at Hotel Delafield and I wanted to share our experience. The hotel is tucked away behind a small business district in the quaint little Wisconsin town and is within walking distance of Downtown Delafield. It is a boutique hotel with a chic bar/restaurant nestled inside. We only stayed for one night, but we made the most of it! We were able to check out the bar and the restaurant and then retire for the night and relax in our room. Keep reading and I’ll tell you about my experience with our little local get away!
The Delafield Hotel
The hotel itself is situated on a slight incline in the terrain, making it appear like something of a Disney castle. There is a bell town at the top of the building, tying it into its surroundings. I noticed that a number of the buildings in the area had similar bell towers,. None seemed quite as grand as the one on the top of the hotel though!
We checked in right at three o’clock, which was the standard check in time. Because of our timing, the lobby was pretty busy when we got there. The staff had a line of people that they were checking in, but they kept it moving and were very friendly in the process.
We stayed in one of the master suites and it was incredibly spacious! I think that my first apartment was smaller in square footage than this hotel room. As great as the space was, I think my favorite part was the bathroom! It was very spacious itself and included a jacuzzi tub, a separate shower with a triple shower head, and a vanity with open storage. (The open storage vanity might not seem like a big deal, but when you are only staying for a short period of time, it is so convenient to be able to keep your toiletry bag on an open shelf underneath the sink so that it is not cluttering up counter space).
After we checked in and had some time to unwind in our suite, we got ready and went to dinner at the hotel restaurant, I.d.
I.d.
I.d. is the hotel restaurant that serves small plates and Sunday brunch. We made reservations about a week before our stay. I don’t believe reservations are required, but it does seem to be a popular spot among locals and hotel guests alike. I would recommend having a reservation if you’re intent on going and especially if you have a large group.
The restaurant has a great drink menu serving up craft cocktails, beer, and wine. I had their version of an old fashioned which they cleverly named “The Business”. It was a pretty traditional Old Fashioned, but I’m sure if you wanted a Wisconsin style Old Fashioned, they’d make a good one of those too!
What I like about small plates is that you have the chance to try a very diverse selection of the menu. Much more than you otherwise would be able to with a typical sized entree. My boyfriend and I have quite the appetite, so we ordered 5 plates for the two of us. Everything was so good, but our favorites were the braised rib sopes and the whipped feta. We also had the Macadamia Nut Crunch Bar dessert. Even my boyfriend who is not much of a dessert person loved it!
Blue Collar Coffee
In the morning, we got up and made our way to Blue Collar Coffee. It is not in the hotel, but it’s just a quick 2 minute drive away. The coffee shop is located right in the heart of downtown Delafield. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also walk there! It’s a quick bite café serving coffee drinks and baked goods. They also offer a small selection of breakfast and lunch sandwiches.
Since we visited in the fall time, all the seasonal pumpkin drinks were available. I tried the pumpkin spice latte. However, I had the barista make it with only about half the flavoring. Flavored lattes tend to be too sweet for me otherwise. My boyfriend and I also both got breakfast burritos which were delicious.
As weird as it may sound though, the part that I got most excited about was the fact that they had a crate of vinyl records. One of my favorite albums just happened to be right in the front of the stack! The record player was not in use when we were there. I asked one of the baristas if they ever actually play the records and she told me that they do occasionally. I can’t imagine that flipping a record every 15 minutes on top of making drinks and serving customers is ideal, so I completely understand why the record player wasn’t in use on a busy Sunday morning.
Next time you’re looking for a place to stay in Southeastern Wisconsin, I can definitely say that The Delafield Hotel is one of the better options that you will find. The hotel provides great rooms, friendly service and an upscale restaurant that even locals frequent. Traveling can be exhausting, but staying in a place like the Delafield Hotel makes it that much more enjoyable!
*Special thanks to The Delafield Hotel for comping my stay and providing me with a gift card to I.d. and Blue Collar Coffee in exchange for this blog post.
