Fall Runway Trends You’ll Actually WANT to Wear

If you’re anything like me, you appreciate the artistry and quality that goes into designer pieces. Watching a runway show for you (if even from behind a computer screen) is comparable to an art connoisseur taking a stroll through the Louvre. But let’s be real with ourselves… We’d never wear about 99.9% of what we see on the runway in real life. At least not in the way that it’s presented on the runway, even if we’re looking at a ready-to-wear collection.

Even though a lot of what is shown on the runway isn’t very realistic in the day-to-day life of a Midwestern girl, most everyday trends do stem from runway collections. For that reason, I like to look at pictures and videos of runway presentations every season. That way, I get a sense of what kind of trends might be on the horizon. Since I am in fall shopping mode, I have been looking at all of the fall/winter 2020 runway shows. There have been a few common themes that I am excited about and that I can already envision in real life. So, I thought that I would share them here! So without further ado, here are three fall runway trends that you’ll actually want to wear!

1. Statement Sleeves

We will start here because this is kind of a carryover from previous seasons. Statement sleeves have been trending for a while, but I’m excited to see that they aren’t going anywhere for this fall/winter season! In the past, bubble sleeves have seemed to have been the big trend. While a few of those did pop up on the fall/winter 2020 runways (ex: Fendi RTW collection), in many cases the pouf seemed to have moved up to the shoulder area.  Alexander McQueen had a few good examples of this in their RTW collection. The sheer pouf sleeve was another example that popped up in places like Christan Dior couture collection among others.

2. Shades of Chartreuse Green

While many other traditionally “fall” colors such as rust, camel, and marigold were common throughout many of the runway collections, one shade that also made an appearance was Chartreuse green. It showed up to accent Chanel’s and Marc Jacobs’ F/W 2020 RTW collections and was a staple in Brandon Maxwell’s show. This color was a little unexpected for me, but I am really digging it. I think that it is light and playful especially when compared to some of the other bolder hues you typically think of when you think “fall”. I also think that it is a shade that will transition beautifully into spring next year as well!

3. Capes

I had to include this one because I had already been eyeing some cape-like styles before even knowing that it was something that had been a major trend on the runways. Since many of us are still staying in more than usual, comfy and cozy pieces are still top of mind and this plays into that vibe perfectly. Designers like Tom Ford and Balenciaga included more casual versions of the style. Givenchy showed how a cape can be worn in a more structured and polished manner.

Have you been keeping up with the runway trends for 2020? If so, what trends are you most excited about? Even though the reality of the world this year makes wearing runway trends especially unrealistic, I still think there are some takeaways that we can still incorporate into our everyday lives. I, for one, am still excited about the upcoming fall season. I hope that after reading this, you are too and that I have shared some runway trends you actually want to wear!

PS. I enjoy doing these types of posts. I did a similar one last spring and I have to say, I think I was pretty spot on! Check it out and see what you think!

As always, thank you so much for reading!
