What is it about a great vest that makes it an essential for any fall or winter wardrobe?!
Is it the versatility of being able to dress it up or dress is down? Is it the fact that its lack of sleeves makes it appropriate to keep on indoors while its cozy filling keeps you warm if you choose to wear it as outerwear? Maybe it’s the timelessness of a great vest that makes it the perfect staple piece.
It’s very possible that a combination of all of these reasons is what makes a vest an absolute must have for fall and winter. I can’t be 100 percent sure. One thing that I am sure of though, is that Old Navy is my absolute favorite place to go for a good vest. In fact, I like the vests from Old Navy so much that it has become a yearly ritual of mine to purchase a new vest from them.
Old Navy pretty much has the same two styles of vests every year – a lightweight quilted vest and a warmer puffer option. They update the colors from year to year, but other than that, the two styles stay about the same. Quite honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Old Navy’s vests are to the retailer what milk is to a grocery store – it is one of their anchor pieces. Think about it, grocery stores know that a lot of people have milk on their shopping list and they also know that it is an easily comparable item. Almost all grocery stores advertise the price of their milk in their weekly flyers and make it easy for potential customers to see who is offering the lowest price. Because of that, grocery stores are constantly fighting to give the the consumer the best possible price on milk.
The same goes for clothing retailers and vests. You can go almost anywhere to purchase a vest. It is a versatile piece that many people will buy, so most retailers carry some version of a vest. Many of these retailers will also advertise their vests and compete to give you the best price possible to try and get you to decide to shop with them over one of their competitors. Unfortunately, some of these retailers sacrifice quality to get to a good price point.
Old Navy, however, has found a way to make a quality product at a great price. I don’t think that I have ever paid more than $20 for a vest at Old Navy. Because of that, Old Navy wins the retail battle for best vest for the value and unless they change something about their formula, I will likely continue to buy a new Old Navy vest on a yearly basis.
