If you’re from Wisconsin, I don’t have to explain to you the majesty that is Lambeau Field. It has been said time and time again how special of a place Lambeau Field is and how captivating the atmosphere of a home field Packer game can be. These are not exaggerations. Many football fans, Packer fans and non-Packer fans alike, come from near and far to experience a game at Lambeau Field.
I myself have been to a handful of regular season Packer games. I have had the opportunity to sit in the lower level on the 50 yard line where I felt as if I could almost reach out and touch Clay Matthews. I have sat in the end zone, not too far from where Eddie Lacy performed a Lambeau leap after running the ball in for a touchdown. And I have sat in the club level where your drinks are brought to your individual stadium seat (as opposed to the bleachers that encompass the majority of the stadium) by a waiter who is dedicated to serving your section. All of these were truly awesome experiences, but none of them quite compare to the experience that I had at Lambeau Field the other night.
Before I tell you about my most recent trip to Lambeau Field, I have to let you know that it almost didn’t happen! My boyfriend was offered Champion Club level tickets to the Monday night football game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers, but he almost gave them away because of some things that he had going on at work that took priority. Luckily for us, he was not able to find any one else to take the tickets, so he and I along with two of our friends were able to go. I tell you all of that to tell you this: If you ever have the opportunity to sit in the Champion’s club level at Lambeau Field for a Green Bay Packers game, DO NOT pass it up! You will not be disappointed!
Because it was a Monday night game and the decision to go was kind of a last minute thing, we made it to Lambeau Field just in the nick of time. When we arrived inside Lambeau, we had to find the special club level entrance. Thankfully, the ushers in the stadium were very helpful and knowledgeable. Had they not been, we totally would have missed kickoff! Once we found the Champion’s club level entrance, we were ushered into an elevator which took us all the way up to the eighth floor of the stadium. Up until that point, I did not even realize that Lambeau had eight floors accessible to the public!
Upon exiting the elevator, we were greeted by two friendly ushers and a gorgeous ice sculpture that was sitting in the middle of an extremely scrumptious looking food spread. I was so tempted to dig right into the food, but kickoff was happening as we were entering the Champion’s club level, so we immediately made our way to our seats.
When we got to our seats I realized that for this game, we were going to have one of the most incredible views of Lambeau Field that probably exists. Because we were all the way up on the eighth floor, I had thought that we would be so far up that the players looked like ants and we would feel disconnected from the rest of the crowd. That was not the case at all! With the exception of one person, (who turned out to be the companion of Terence Crawford – yes, that’s right, we were sitting mere feet from the current World Boxing Welterweight Champion!) everyone in the Champion’s club were also Packer fans. While we weren’t sitting in with the rest of the crowd at Lambeau Field, the energy was high, people were cheering, we could hear the rest of the crowd, and there was no sense of disconnect from what was going on whatsoever!
After finding our seats and watching the first few drives, we decided that were were hungry and wanted to dig into that that delicious looking food. Imagine a buffet like Golden Corral or Old Country Buffet, but that only serves gourmet food. That was the food spread at the Champion’s Club inside Lambeau field. It was incredible and did not disappoint! There was a seafood station, steak, salad, even a hot cocoa and coffee bar! And of course, what would a food spread at Lambeau Field be without cheese?! The cheese and sausage that was being served was all local and it was delectable, as it should be!
We basically spent the whole first half of the football game going to and from the smorgasbord trying all of the different options. We didn’t even have to worry about bothering our neighbors at our seats from getting up and down to get food because there were separate tables that we were able to sit and eat at while we enjoyed the sights and sounds of Lambeau Field.
After we finished eating, we went to an upper deck only accessible to those with tickets in the Champion’s club. The deck was completely outdoors and open to the rest of the Lambeau atmosphere. It was a somewhat of a chilly night – the temps were in the mid 30’s – so we only stayed out there for about 10 minutes. Had we gone to a game earlier in the season or had the weather been a little warmer, I’m sure we would have stayed out on the upper deck a little longer. The view from it was almost breathtaking. I felt like a bird perched high above everyone else who could just observe everything and take in all the sights and sounds. I really enjoyed it.
We sat in our actual seats for the second half of the game and I remember making the comment to my boyfriend that this must be what it feels like to be the defensive coordinator. We were behind glass, in a heated room, and we could see every detail of what was happening in the game. I think there were some opportunities that we saw from our seats that Aaron Rogers himself might have missed!
While this was all going on, there was another pretty major Wisconsin sporting event going on at the exact same time. The Milwaukee Brewers were playing the LA Dodgers for the chance at a spot in the World series. Most other fans who chose to go to the Packer game night would have missed the Brewer’s game as there are no TVs and little cell reception inside Lambeau Field. However, in the Champions club, we had TV monitors that were visible to us from our seats that were showing the Brewer’s game. Talk about having your cake and eating it too!!
Between what was happening in the Packer game and what was happening in the Brewer game, we were on the edge of our seats the entire night. The Packer game was a close one – the Packers were actually trailing the majority of the game, but kept the score close. The Brewers had a shutout and a decent 4-0 lead going against the Dodgers, but no lead is really comfortable against that team. Then in the 9th inning, our closing pitcher who had given up a lead in a game that we lost two nights prior, loaded the bases with only 1 out. He somehow wound up getting out of it and the Brewer’s won 4-0! All of this was happening as the Packers were driving down the field to try and score a touchdown to tie the football game. It was so intense and nerve wrecking and at times I didn’t know weather to direct my attention towards the football field or the Brewer game on tv! All is well that ends well though and the Packers came back to tie and then win the football game. We left Lambeau Field with huge smiles on our faces and an experience to last us a lifetime.
